北京外语广播的多位双语采访人员2020-2021年间曾深度走近中轴线，采制了系列融媒产品《北京中轴线的智慧》（该系列获第31届北京新闻奖国际传播一等奖）。伴随申遗进程，中轴线在我们面前日益清晰——从物理层面、文化层面到情感层面。对于中轴线，普通市民、青春一代、采访人员和在京生活的外国朋友，都有着自己的感受和发现。

My understanding of the central axis of Beijing, known as the soul of Beijing, is more because of the social practice of junior high school than it has been 18 years of life. In that social practice, I walked through the traces of the years on the central axis—643 years of rules and order since the beginning of the Jin Dynasty, and I understood how beautiful Beijing can be. That's why I always think the best way to get people to know the central axis is to entertain it.

The history of Beijing seems to fold up in this symmetrical line, the central Axis of Beijing. I discover its cultural significance when I began to explore the Chinese hand scroll, a type of ancient Chinese art, especially a piece named Tianjiedanque. Through the yellowed scroll and continued reading and interviewing, the artistic and humanities angle showed me the moderation doctrine of Chinese. I see the axis no longer as a product of history, but as living cultural symbol that is deeply embedded in Chinese people’s personality and thought.

The central axis of Beijing is both a historical yet futuristic section of road spanning from the Gate of Safety to the Bell Tower and going through the forbidden palace, tiananmen and China's flag pole. And is the representation of both Chinas past and it’s future.

As one of the student reporters of Voice of Youth, one of programs of the Beijing Radio International, I’ve learned a lot about Beijing’s Central Axis when I prepared for the broadcast program. The Central Axis is not an actual road, but a harmonious cluster of distinct buildings and sites. A lot of famous landmarks like the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square and the Temple of Heaven are all located along the central axis. Its location and design not only represent the “value of the center” in traditional Chinese culture, but also highlight Chinese philosophy's respect to the nature and its appreciation of mutual existence between man and nature.

Since the understanding of the cultural connotation and philosophical meanings contained in the central axis requires certain knowledge and a deep understanding of Chinese traditional culture and history, I usually introduce the Central Axis culture to my foreign friends by telling them someone interesting historical stories that contains some values or thoughts shared by Eastern and Western culture. And I would show them not only the respective characteristics of those historical sites, but also the connection between them, as well as their role in the whole system of Central Axis Culture.
